Tuesday of the 20 week in ordinary time ‘b’

Do you consider yourself rich, average or poor? What makes us rich? Or, how much do we need to have in order to consider ourselves rich? But then, who is rich and who is poor in Jesus’s categories? I am saying this because I had always a problem understanding this Gospel reading. Jesus said: “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the Kingdom of heaven.” Luckily, He didn’t say that it will be impossible for rich people to enter the kingdom, but it will be hard. But why? The church from its beginning always relied on rich people’s support. Our diocese today and our parishes get many very generous donations, and they don’t come from the poor but from the rich. The rich people help those who are poor. Jesus is not judging us by what we have, but He reminds us today that we can’t be attached to those things. We need to be free in order to share them with others. Jesus wants to be first in your life, before everything else. If Jesus is first, then everything will be in order.
