Tuesday of the 27 week in ordinary time ‘b’

Writer's picture: Fr. KrisFr. Kris

Are you hungry? Can I also offer you something to drink? Let me empty the dish washer and I will be right with you. What did you say, I can’t hear you? Let me just take this phone call. Life gets busy, even with ordinary things. And when it happens, we tend to ignore others, ignore our guests that came for a visit. We tend to make little things more important than a person who visited us because he or she likes you, likes to spend time with us. But instead of cherishing that moment with a friend, we run around, doing things that are not that significant. That was exactly what happens to Jesus when He visited two sisters, Martha and Mary. Martha complained that her sister was not helping her with the housework. But instead, Mary was focused on Jesus only. What did Jesus say? He said: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” You and I can become either like Martha, running around, working, doing stuff but then missing the opportunity to be with Jesus, to listen to Him. Or we can be like Mary, slowing down, stopping, forgetting about all the daily struggles for a moment and just being with the Lord.
