In each family the parents are in charge. They make the rules, and they care for the wellbeing of the family. In some families, the father is in charge, but in some, it is the mother. But generally, the parents take the lead, not the children. In my own family with my parents and four of us children, we learned quickly that we need to listen to them and follow their rules. Whenever we disobeyed or didn’t listen to them, we would be punished. But still we loved each other, and we knew that we were one loving family even with some disagreements. Jesus tells us today that if we want to belong to His family, to become His brothers and sisters, we need to do the same thing -- we need to do the will of God, who is our Father. Only then will we be called brothers and sisters of Jesus. “For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”
