Today Jesus tells me that He doesn’t want my promises or my good intentions, but He is waiting for me to act. How many times, especially after confession, do I promise Him that from now on I will be better, that I will pray more, that I will be nicer to my siblings, my friends, and that I will help others, and so on? Sounds familiar, right? In the parable from today’s Gospel we can easily see which of the sons fulfilled his father’s will- not the one who promised that he would go and work in the vineyard, but rather the one who said- no, I won’t go- but then change his mind and went. There are people who don’t make promises to God, there are people who may not even be Christians, but they fulfill the Father’s will, just by doing good things for others.
