Fr. Kris
Tuesday of the 3 week of Lent
Peter already knows that Jesus teaches his followers to forgive, but he is not sure how many times he was supposed to forgive. It is hard to forgive others. It is very hard to forgive someone who betrayed us, cheated on us, has stolen from us, hurt our family, spread false gossip about us. No, it’s not easy to forgive, but with God’s help many of us are able to forgive and forget, but on one condition -- that the person won’t hurt us anymore, won’t hurt us again. But if he or she breaks our trust again, then forgiveness is almost impossible. How many times should we forgive? Each time, Jesus says. Why? Because God also forgives us each and every time we hurt Him, by our sins. We too promise God that this will be the last time, I will never commit that sin anymore. But we do, over and over again, and God in His love forgives us each time we ask for forgiveness. “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times? Jesus answered, I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.”
