Tuesday of the First Week of Advent ‘a’

Jesus said to His disciples: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.” They were blessed indeed! They were right there next to the Lord. They could talk to Him, listen to Him, ask questions, touch Him -- such an honor. However, these words of Jesus are also addressed to you and me. How come, you may ask? We are not as blessed as the disciples of Jesus, since the Lord is not here. Well, He is not here as He was then, in human flesh, but He is still with us in a different form. He is truly present in the scripture, sacraments, and most importantly, in the Eucharist. Just like the disciples we can talk to Him, listen to Him, ask questions, and even touch Him. And so: “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.” There are still some that are not as blessed are you are.
