Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

“At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.’” Clearly, we must pray for many good vocations to the priesthood and religious life. I always understood these words of Jesus this way. We need more priests and religious to be good shepherds to take care of those who are hopeless, abandoned, and rejected. However, Jesus doesn’t want us to pray only for vocations to consecrated life, but for all of us, so we baptized Christians become the extension of His hands here and now. We all are those workers in God’s vineyard.
