Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter ‘b’

Jesus said to Nicodemus that he ‘must be born from above.’ This made that wise teacher of the law very confused. And I think it makes us confused too. Because what does it mean to be born from above? What Jesus meant is that becoming His disciple requires from us a total transformation; it is like being born again, being baptized, and forgiven. During the sacrament of baptism, we become a new creation, and we receive a new name. We also begin a new life not as children of this world but as the children of God. Most of us have already been baptized, yet today we are reminded about what this sacrament means to us. We need to be born from above, because we belong to what is above and not to this world.
