Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent ‘a’

“And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” We pray these words daily. However, we should stop for a moment and think if we truly forgive others, those who hurt us. See, if you want God to be forgiving and merciful, then you need to deal with others in the same way. If you read the parable from the Gospel today, a parable about a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants, then don’t forget about the huge debt that one of his servants owed him. That way, you will understand that God is quick in forgiving us and our sins. But we toward others? -- not always, “Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan.” That servant begged for forgiveness and that forgiveness was granted to him. But when that same servant was not able to forgive even a small debt that was owed to him, he immediately forgot about what the king did for him. The message is simple -- if you expect Our Merciful God to love you, forgive you, help you, then you must act the same way with others. “And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”
