Tuesday of the Thirty Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

What do you do to meet Jesus? What tree do you climb? Zacchaeus who was a tax collector and sinner desperately wanted to see Jesus. He was aware of his sinfulness. That’s why he didn’t expect much from the Lord; he just wanted to see Jesus. That’s why he climbed a tree. And by climbing up the tree, he was not only able to see more from up there, but he exposed himself and became more visible. And that paid off for Zacchaeus, big time. He not only was able to see Jesus from the distance, but he was recognized by the Lord, He was called by the Lord, and Jesus came to His home. Zacchaeus’ life changed completely. He converted and made promises to share what he had with others. Many times, we must overcome certain obstacles in life that may prevent us from seeing Jesus. These could be all kinds of things like – complicated relationships, pride, sin, temptation, laziness, anger, and so on. These things not only prevent us from seeing the Lord, but also hide us from His sight. All we need to do is make an effort to see the Lord, to ‘climb that tree’ which will not only enable us to see Jesus, but Jesus will be able to see us, call us by name, and completely change our lives for the better.
