Tuesday of the Thirty-Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

Perhaps when you read today’s gospel passage, you will envy Zacchaeus that the Lord noticed him. More than that, He visited him in his home. You may even think: if that happened to me and if Jesus knocked on my door and had dinner with me, I would also do everything to change my life, to convert, to give to the poor; and if I have hurt anyone, I would repay them four times. That is exactly what happened to Zacchaeus -- his experience of the Lord, his personal encounter with God, changed his heart. You may envy Zacchaeus, but at the same time, you may be forgetting that Jesus comes to you today in a similar way. He is present among us, especially in the Eucharist that you receive. He comes to you, and He goes with you to your home. And that should mean something to you. Just like Zacchaeus, after his close, personal encounter of Jesus, you too can’t be the same person. You need to change, you need to make your life a better, holier life.
