Tuesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

The disciples asked Jesus: "’Who then can be saved?’ Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For men this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.’" I often think that I need to put so much effort into my life in order to be saved, to receive salvation. So, I try to live according to God’s commandments. I receive the sacraments, I try not to hurt anyone, I try to avoid temptations. Yet when I sin, I am getting worried that at the day of judgment I will not be accepted into heaven. Summarizing this - I wrongly think that salvation is up to me. I either do good and go to heaven or I will sin, and I will be punished. Today Jesus reminds us that it does not work that way. Salvation belongs only to God and only God will decide who will be saved. We are called to believe and to love God and neighbor. We should try avoiding all sins. However only God will decide who will be saved, because He can even save the criminal who was hung on the cross next to Jesus.
