Tuesday of the Twenty Third Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

“Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles.” This is very powerful for me -- Jesus prayed all night before making a very important decision about choosing His Apostles. No, we don’t know what Jesus was praying for, but I believe that He talked with God about those new Apostles. Perhaps He was asking and confirming with God whom He should choose from the many who followed Him already. We all are making various decisions in life, those very small daily decisions but also those that will make a big impact on our future or on other people. Today Jesus shows us that before making important decisions, we should talk to God about them, ask Him for His guidance, and for the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. We shouldn’t rush but spend some time in prayer and then make the right decision.
