Which is better? to be nice and polite, trying not to offend others, or just being honest even though they may get angry with you? Today Jesus shows us that honesty and truth take priority over politeness. It takes courage to be honest with others, especially when you need to point out their mistakes or their sins and correct them. Those who are corrected by you often get angry at you, may even stop liking you. Jesus wasn’t concerned if people liked Him or not. He didn’t come to be polite and nice with everybody, but He came to sinners to correct them and to bring them healing. Some, like those from the Gospel reading today, didn’t get it and ended up being angry and offended. But some listened and converted. We need to be honest with each other, not only polite. Very honest at times. And if there is something your brother or sister is doing wrong, you need to tell them and in the same way, accept and try to understand when others correct you and me.
