Wednesday of the 30 week in ordinary time ‘b’

The Jewish people believed that because they were a chosen nation, they didn’t need to do much to be saved. They knew their scriptures, they memorized the law, and they prayed often and thought that this would be enough. But this is not what Jesus says. “And you will say, ‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’ Then he will say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!’” Knowing Jesus won’t save us. We may ask Jesus one day: Lord, I always went to church; Lord, I prayed; Lord I read the bible… how come You don’t recognize me? Jesus had mentioned a few times before that it is not enough only to know Him and who He is, but rather to fulfill His will. We may pray all the time, receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist each day, and fast often, but that is not enough. We need to do more. We need to act and bring Jesus and His love into this world and to others. This is our mission and our call.
