Who are you to tell me how to live? Who are you to correct me? Look at yourself first, you are no better than I am. I think we all have heard similar statements before, especially from those who know us well. And it is true, we should always try to make changes in our lives before correcting others. But even if we have changed our past and become better people, those who know us and know our past, won’t always listen to us. I experience this in my personal life, when as a priest it is quite difficult to talk to my own family members. They know me from the beginning, know my past, know my mistakes and know my own challenges and that makes it so difficult for me to preach to or to correct them. The same happened to Jesus in the Gospel reading for today. He went back to His town, but because people there knew Him well, knew His family, they didn’t want to listen to Him. “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house. So, he was not able to perform any mighty deed there.”
