Wednesday of the Eighteen Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

I think most of us would find the words of Jesus today a bit offensive. Poor woman is asking for his help, not even for herself but for her daughter who was tormented by a demon. And what does she hear in reply? “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.” If someone called you that – a dog – I’d bet you would feel offended. But this woman didn’t. She was able to admit her sinfulness and begged for mercy. I have experienced that in the sacrament of confession quite often. People ask me -- would God ever forgive me my terrible sin? The answer is in today’s Gospel. Look at that Canaanite woman and especially at her humility. She was able to admit, yes, I got lost, I am a sinful person, so please help me. Humility is the key. If you and I approach Jesus with a humble heart, are truly sorry for our sins, and humbly beg for His forgiveness, He will never ignore us.
