Wednesday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary time ‘a’

Why would a mother and father take care of their child? Why would they wake up in the middle of the night when they hear their child crying? Why would they feed it, clothe it, teach the child how to speak and how to pray? Why would they work long hours just to make sure they can afford a good education for their children? The answer is simple -- because they love their child. They make all those sacrifices not because they will get any kind of prize for doing them, they do them out of love. In a similar way Jesus wants you to fulfill your religious practices. He does not want you to practice your faith, to give alms, to pray and to fast only because that’s how you were taught, and not because you want to show others how religious you are. Rather, do them because you truly love God. Jesus teaches us today: “when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret.” “When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.” Do it because you love God.
