Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent ‘b’

Jesus said “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation but has passed from death to life.” Many of us tend to believe that we must work very hard in order to be saved, to inherit eternal life. And so, we try to avoid sins, we try to live as well as we can, because we think that by our own good works, we will earn the prize of eternal life. And yes, we must follow the commandments, and do everything we can to avoid occasions to sin. However, it is only up to God’s grace if we will be saved or not. God has the power to save us, and we simply do not have that power. That’s why Jesus’s words from the gospel reading today are so comforting to all of us. All we need to do is to believe, to believe that God knows what He is doing, to believe that God will save us, because He is loving and merciful. Whoever hears Jesus’ word and believes in the one who sent Him has eternal life already!
