Wednesday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

There are many different prayers we have learned. We all have our favorite prayers, we all like to pray at certain times. Some of us feel better connected with God in the morning, some like to talk to Him more at the end of day. We may have a special place where we like to pray. It may be in your room, or in a garden, or in your church. And we pray individually and as a community of believers. And today Jesus reminds us that our prayer with the community is a very powerful prayer. Yes, we must pray often, and frequently talk to God. But I disagree when someone tells me that he or she prays only on her own, that they don’t need the church to come to God. But we do need the church - not only as a building, a gathering place - but as our community of believers, brothers and sisters who pray for each other. That’s why Jesus reminds us today: “I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
