Have you ever traveled to a different country, to visit a new place and to meet another culture? Most of us have. Or maybe you traveled to a different state for the first time in your life. Perhaps you have read some tour guidebooks before you departed, you have searched what places to visit, what is the best food to try, and what to learn about that place. However, it is never the same as physically visiting that place, that state, country, or island. So, you do have some ideas, some expectations. But still, these are only a small sampling. You need to be there to get to know the people, to hear their language, to try the local food, to find out that in that particular country people follow different laws and regulations than what you are familiar with. We are comfortable with what we know, with the familiar places where we live, the language we speak, the food we eat and laws that we follow, so when we travel, we might be in awe and shocked that life in other lands can look totally different. I think that’s what Jesus tried to explain to the Sadducees - a Jewish religious sect that didn’t believe in the resurrection. He tells them that life after the resurrection will be completely different, changed; it won’t be anything that we know from here. After the resurrection we will be like angels. Only when we rise from the dead, only then will we fully experience that new life. For now, we can only imagine. “When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven.”
