Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent ‘a’

A couple weeks ago, after our last mass on Sunday, I was locking the church doors ready to leave and then a young person came and asked me if he could stay a little bit and pray. I have never seen him before, so I asked if everything was OK. He said that his mom was diagnosed with cancer, and he wanted to say a prayer for her. He also said that he has not been in the church for years, but he believed that God would listen to his prayers. This is exactly what Jesus means by saying today to us: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” There are times in life when we don’t know where else to go, where to find help, comfort or answers. Today we are reminded that we can always come to God because He will give us rest and comfort in whatever situation that we struggle with in this life.
