Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Easter ‘a’

Jesus continues praying for His disciples, asking the Father: “I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One.” Such an important prayer that we ourselves tend to keep forgetting. And yes, whenever we recite the Lord’s prayer, we ask God to “lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.” But do you say these words with understanding of what are you asking for? Or when you talk to God, do you ask Him to help you fight your temptations? Do you ask Him to make you a good and holy person living according to God’s commandments? When Jesus prayed for His disciples and now prays for you and me, He does not ask for our safety, for the protection, for health, nor for a good and happy life. Instead, He asks God the Father to keep us away from the Evil One, because nothing hurts us as much as sin.
