Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter ‘a’

In order to prepare my daily reflections and other homilies, I need to read and meditate on the scripture readings provided each day. I have been a priest for almost 20 years, so I can say that I know the scripture readings by heart. Someone may think that it will be difficult to find anything new, any new message, in those readings after a while. But surprisingly, each time I read them, I find something new. I think it is because I have matured, every day I gain different experiences, I look at life and the world around me in different ways, I gain more knowledge. So, all these things help me to look at those scripture readings in a brand-new light. When I read the same gospel reading 20 years ago, God spoke to me through it in a different way than today. And I am sure you have a similar experience in finding God’s message in the scripture readings and in other events of your life. Jesus said: “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” There still might be things that we don’t understand that are happening in our lives or in our spiritual journey, but don’t give up. Perhaps a year from now, or five years or maybe even longer than that, God will bring a brand new light to the text, through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
