Wednesday of the Thirty Fourth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

We all sometimes let our emotions to take over and speak through us. I know it happens to me too, especially in the moments when I am angry at someone, or I disagree with certain things. Then instead of slowing down, thinking, letting it go, and instead of asking for God’s wisdom - I get angry, impatient, and speak not from my heart, but with anger. We all get angry at times and because of that we say things we later regret. ‘Why did I say that’, you may think afterwards. ‘Why did I react this way, this wasn’t me’? Anger, emotions, pride - those things can take over right thinking. That’s why Jesus warns His disciples today that there will be times when they will be imprisoned, persecuted, rejected: “they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name.” Jesus was warning them not to get angry, not to let their emotions take over. Instead, wait for me because I will be speaking through you, I will give you wisdom. “Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.” Perhaps next time you get angry, don’t let you anger speak through you, but simply stay quiet and ask the Holy Spirit for His help.
