Wednesday of the Thirty-Fourth Week in Ordinary Time ‘c’

LK 21:12-19

Jesus said to the crowd: They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name.” Are these warnings being addressed only to the first Christians? Because we know that that is exactly what happened to them -- they were imprisoned, persecuted, and killed for Jesus’ name. No, those warnings of Jesus were not only to those first Christian martyrs that shed their blood for their faith. Those warnings are very accurate today too. There are places in this world where Christians are being killed for their faith. And maybe you and I will not shed our blood for Christ, but we too might face rejection. Some may turn away from us or make fun of us because of our faith. We just need to pray and ask the Lord to give us strength and wisdom, so we can be able to defend our beliefs. “By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”
