Friday in the 2 week in ordinary time ‘c’

When I was growing up, I and my friends loved to play soccer. We would play almost every day. Other sports were not as popular as soccer at that time in Poland. As you know, to play soccer you need to have two teams that would play against each other, and each team wants to win. But in order to win, you need to make sure you have a good player -- just like in all other team games. However, some of us played really well and some were terrible, so no one wanted to have them join their team. In order to keep winning and having a successful team, you need to have great players. I recall this whenever I think about Jesus choosing His first disciples. “Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might be with him.” Jesus didn’t choose all of those who wanted to be on His team but only the best players. We know that all of them had their weaknesses, doubts, and one even betrayed Jesus, but that was Jesus’ team. It was so successful that we have our church right up to this day. I think we need to consider today -- would Jesus like me to join His team? Am I strong enough to fight for Jesus in this secular world?
