Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” And then He said that those who believe in Him will speak new languages, will lay hands on the sick and the sick will recover. I was always puzzled by these words. Is my faith not strong enough? I can’t speak new languages unless I have spent years on learning. I can’t heal those who are sick, those who have cancer, I can’t heal those who are dying. Maybe my faith is not strong enough? Maybe it is not. However, I came to understand that Jesus didn’t mean that those who believe would immediately receive some extraordinary power, no. What He meant is that those who believe in Him will speak a new language, a language of love, a language of respect, a language of peace. Those who believe in Jesus will have a special power of bringing peace and love to this broken world. They would visit the sick, bring them comfort and peace so that after this life there is life eternal prepared for us. Our faith in Jesus enables us to change this world into a better place.
