Friday of the 2 week in Lent ‘b’

Some of us think that because we are baptized Christians, we are entitled to be among the first who will enter the Kingdom of God or put simply, go to Heaven. We may say or think: I was baptized, I went to Communion, went regularly to church on Sunday, I support my parish and pray before each meal. So, I will go to heaven before those who are staying away from the church. Today Jesus reminds us that this is simply not enough. It’s important, but not enough. So, what we need to do? We need to produce fruit. We can’t just stop growing at some one point of our religion and then expect that everything will be fine, just because we are practicing Catholics. Only if our religious practices will change us, make us grow and lead us to service of others and to the service of our God, we will secure our place in Heaven. Otherwise: “the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit.”
