Friday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

Reading today’s Gospel, you may notice two things: first, before Jesus cured the man who was deaf along with a speech impediment, He “took him off by himself away from the crowd.” And second, after the miracle He asked people not to talk about what happened. You may wonder why. I think it has to do with the reason why Jesus was cured that man. It wasn’t because He wanted to gain any publicity but because He did it out of love for that man. Jesus simply cares about this other person, and about their wellbeing because He loves us. Jesus does things out of love, and that is the only thing that motivates Him. We need to learn from the Lord that whatever we do for others, or whatever good we share, must be done out of love and nothing else.
