Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ‘c’

Summer is almost over, but I hope that most of you took advantage of these warm days and spent some time away with your family or friends. Perhaps, you are still waiting for your vacation time -- good for you! Whether you had your vacation already or you are still waiting, before each trip you need to make certain preparations. No matter if you fly thousands of miles or just drive to another state, you need to plan, pack, and get ready. Today in the Gospel, Jesus reminds us about His second coming, but He says that He will come like a thief, unexpected, without announcing His coming. So, it may happen today, or it may happen many years from now; we don’t know. We also don’t know when we will leave this world and meet Him. So, just like with traveling, we need to make certain preparations, with the difference that you don’t know when your last trip will take place. Therefore, we need to be prepared at each moment, not delaying, not thinking that we still have lots of time. No. The Lord is urging us today to start preparing our hearts for meeting Him, today. We need to stop procrastinating our conversion, since we don’t know how much time we have left. “You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
