Saturday of the Sixth Week of Easter ‘a’

Last Sunday we heard in the Gospel reading that Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” So, love of God is not expressed in some kind of good feeling or emotions, nor in any verbal declarations, like -- I love you God. No! Jesus is being very clear: if you love me, you will keep my commandments. In other words, if you want to prove your love for me, then follow my teachings. Today in the Gospel reading Jesus continues saying to us: “And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.” We all want to be loved by God, we want to be forgiven for our sins and mistakes, and we want to be blessed and protected. And our God does all that for us. However, we owe Him something in return -- we owe Him our love, and that love must be expressed in action, in keeping and following His commandments.
