Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary was the only person that was taken to Heaven with her body. What a privilege! But she was chosen by God for a reason -- mainly because she was a most humble person, always thinking about others, never about herself. Today’s Gospel proves this. Mary traveled a long distance to a hill country, mostly by foot, to visit her cousin Elizabeth who just like Mary was expecting a child. Traveling back then wasn’t as easy as today. It was very dangerous, and slow, so she must have been on the road for several days. Why did she do it? Shouldn’t she worry about herself and her son to be born. In our opinion she should, but Mary wanted to be with her cousin to share the joy of becoming mothers and also to help Elizabeth. There is so much we can learn from Blessed Mary, but most importantly we need to learn how to be humble and serve others. “Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.”
