Tuesday of the 2 week of Lent

It is always heartbreaking when the leaders of our Church, those who should always give the best example of what they teach and preach, do just the opposite or even engage in some terrible and sinful behavior. Some of our faithful people even leave the Church after scandals like that. But this is nothing new; it happened even during the times of Jesus. The leaders of that time, the Pharisees and the scribes, those who were supposed to teach and preach with humility and always give a great example, did not. I am sure there were a number of humble and righteous leader of religion back then too. Just like now we do have conscientious and holy leaders in our Church who practice what they teach. But there also are some who by their behavior cause many scandals. It is interesting what Jesus is telling His listeners and all of us. He says: “Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example.” Don’t turn away from the Church; instead pray for those lost leaders, follow what they teach, but don’t follow their bad example. In the end God will judge them too.
