Jesus wants to come to my house and stay with me. He knows my name and tells me -- today I want to stay at your house. Am I worthy of such an honor? I am a sinner, I would rather watch Him from a distance and see His miracles. No, Jesus is telling all of us today, I want to stay with you, and He does. He comes to us in the Eucharist, He comes to us in the presence of other people, He comes to our homes in the Scriptures. But if He visits with us, we must change our lives for the better. Zacchaeus in today’s Gospel knew that Jesus’ presence in his life required of him a total change, a brand-new way of living his life from that moment on. “Today salvation has come to this house.” (I hope it comes to my house too).
