Tuesday of the Eight Week in Ordinary Time ‘a’

Typical human reaction: What will I get in return? How am I going to be repaid for my service, for my help, for my work, for living a good life? We are motivated to do certain things by the way we will be rewarded. It seems to me that even the apostle Peter was expecting something for his sacrifices. Notice he said to Jesus: “We have given up everything and followed you.” So, what will I get for that? In the end Peter gained more than he could even imagine. He received heaven, he received sanctity because that is the ultimate prize for faithfully following our Lord. However, today we should ask ourselves: how much do I offer of my time, my resources, my knowledge, and my possessions without expecting anything in return? We all deserve a just payment for our work, but there are times when we need to go beyond that and help another person without expecting anything in return.
