Wy would you invite someone to dinner, either at your home or to a restaurant? We share the meal with people that we know, people we love, or with people we would like to get to know better. Sometimes we want to share some important news with another person, and we don’t want to do it over the phone. So, it is always better to do it at the table during a meal. Jesus invites us to His table, to the altar, during the Eucharist to share a meal with us, to show us how much He loves us, but also to share the Good News with us. We won’t invite to our dinner table our enemies. In a similar way, Jesus invited those whom He loved and trusted. Today He invites you and me because He loves us and trusts us. We should never reject that invitation, but with joy, approach the table of the Lord and listen carefully to the news that He wants to share with you. Sunday Mass is not an obligation, but it is a great honor and a privilege to be among those whom Jesus invites to share the meal with.
