Feast of St. Lawrence- Deacon and Martyr

We are given this beautiful image in the Gospel reading for today. Jesus says: “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.” As Christians we must become like that grain of wheat, meaning, we can’t selfishly live only for ourselves, worrying only about our wellbeing. If we do that, we will remain just like that grain. We will not grow and we will not produce any fruit. However, we are called to produce much fruit, by ‘dying’ in our selfishness and then sharing and giving our talents to others. “The Father will honor whoever serves me.”
