I must admit that I never liked this Gospel reading, nor even understood why we need to read all of these difficult names and go through all the generations to see where Jesus earthly ancestors came from and who they were. This is called “The Book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.” This reading proves to us that Jesus is truly human, just like each one of us. Sometimes we tend to forget about the very human side of our Lord and think of Him only as God. But you know that His nature was divine and human. And so Jesus also had earthly ancestors who were not always holy or without sin. But what can we learn from this? I learn that we all come from different places, we all have many ancestors, and some of them may have done some really bad things in the past. But no matter where we came from or what ancestors we had -- we are all called to holiness and we can’t blame others for our own sins.
