Peter wanted to stay longer on the Mount of Transfiguration. I think that he didn’t fully understand what was happening, but he knew that he was privileged to experience something wonderful yet supernatural that not many people would ever experience. That’s why he wanted to stay there. That experience of the Transfiguration of the Lord helped Peter to grasp a little taste of Heaven. And if you taste Heaven just a little bit, you don’t want to go back to earthly things anymore. You just want to stay there, with the Lord. Sometimes when we pray and experience the presence of the Lord, we feel what Peter felt on that Mountain -- joy, peace, and great comfort. We would rather stay there with the Lord, and not want to go back to our earthly problems and concerns. We need to pray that one day, those short experiences of the presence of the Lord in our lives, will transform into eternal happiness in Heaven.
