Saturday of the Fourth Week of Easter ‘b’

Have you ever wondered what God looks like? We all have an image of our God. We have seen some paintings with His image representing God as an older man with white hair and a beard watching the world from above. But this is only our imagination because God has no gender, God has no age, God does not look like we do. Today in the Gospel one of the disciples of Jesus, Phillip, asked “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” But earlier Jesus said, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” What does this mean? To me it means that it is not about external appearance of our God, but about who He is to us. God and Jesus are one, if you know Jesus then you also know God the Father. Jesus is loving, He is forgiving, He gave up His life for you and me, Jesus heals your wounds, Jesus never abandons you even when you sin, Jesus wants you to be happy and He promises your life that will never end. So, we may not know what God looks like, but that is not important. The most important thing is that we have God who loves us unconditionally. You know Jesus, so you also know the Father.
