Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent ‘b’

Today we read that “The Jews picked up rocks to stone Jesus. Jesus answered them, ‘I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?’The Jews answered him, ‘We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God.’” They had their own expectations and imaginations of God, and that’s why they couldn’t accept the fact that God came to them in a human form. How can this man, who is like us, looks like us, speak likes us, claim that He is the Son of God? But aren’t we like those people, especially when we have our own image of God which makes us blind to see His presence among us in our daily situations and in another person? I think we are not much different when we ignore Jesus who is present in our brothers and sisters but only worship Him in the Eucharist, beautiful paintings, and statues. Too many times we want to see God who is above, forgetting that He is here, among us today.
