Memorial of the Passion of St. John the Baptist

Have you ever regretted any decision that you have made? I am sure you have; we all have! There is no going back and changing what we have done even if we have some regrets. Herod made his decision out of impulse, without thinking. He was blinded by the emotions that accompanied him when he saw Herodias’s daughter dancing. Without thinking, he said: “’Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you.’ He even swore many things to her, ‘I will grant you whatever you ask of me, even to half of my kingdom.’” We know what happened next. Because of her mother, she did ask Herod to kill John the Baptist. I am sure Herod regretted his impulsive promise. What I learn today is not to make any decisions, especially important decisions, in moments of anger, moments of sadness, moments of emotions, moments of weakness. Let’s wait, take some time, pray, and ask God to help us make a correct decision.
