We came into this world with nothing, and we will leave this world with nothing. However, going through life, we accumulate all kinds of things. There is nothing wrong with that, since we do need certain things in life -- clothes, a car, a place to live, furniture, appliances and so on. But we also collect or spend money on things that we don’t necessarily need; we just want them. People own all kinds of stuff. You might often hear about some famous celebrity spending millions on a private jet, or a fancy yacht, and many other expensive toys. Today Jesus reminds us that all of that, all the things we collect in this life, have no value to Him. We will need to leave everything behind. But what has value for Christ and what will give us eternal life are the good deeds we collect and our willingness to follow Him. “Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.” All these things will be taken away from us, but what matters is eternal life.
