Monday of the First Week of Advent ‘b’

The centurion from the Gospel reading today, even for a second, did not doubt in Jesus’ power. He didn’t doubt that Jesus would heal his servant. When Jesus said in reply “I will come and cure him”, the centurion kind of protested, saying: “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.” He is showing a great faith in Jesus; he knows that Jesus’ word has the power to heal the sick and to bring the dead back to life. It seems like that centurion was trying to tell Jesus: Lord, you are an important man, you are very busy, and many other people are waiting for you, please don’t trouble yourself coming to my house because I believe that your word can heal my servant. That’s why Jesus praised that man -- for the great amount of faith that he had in the Lord. Jesus’ word which has the power to change us and to change this world for the better. Keep asking Him to increase your faith, to give you the faith of that centurion, because we ourselves doubt Him too many times.
