Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time ‘b’

It is very difficult to quit any type of addiction - whether it is smoking, drinking, gambling, playing video games, and so on. If someone is addicted to something, they will not free herself or himself from it unless she or he realizes and admits that she is addicted, he is addicted, and asks for help. I know many wonderful people who were able to take that first step, and now they are free from the addiction. However, there are also those who are unable to admit that they are somehow enslaved by the addiction, and they continue to harm themselves and people around them by their addictions. Some find pleasure in sin, temptations, and addictions because these seem attractive. If the temptation didn’t seem attractive, we wouldn’t be tempted at all. After Jesus freed the man from the unclean spirit, those who witnessed it got divided into two groups - those who were amazed and happy, and those who were terrified and asked Him to leave their district. We are also divided today. There are many of us who seek Christ’s healing, forgiveness, and we want Him to free us from sin, temptations, and addictions, but there also are those who take pleasure in sin. These are the people who want to get rid of Jesus, because they would rather remain enslaved to sin and addictions than ask Jesus to help them. We all are sinners, but we must invite Christ to stay with us and help us instead of avoiding Him and keep living in a sinful life.
