Saturday after Ash Wednesday ‘b’

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post. He said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.” After that Jesus was invited to Levi’s home who also invited some tax collectors and others. That’s why the Pharisees complained and asked Jesus: “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” You know that clever answer that Jesus gave them. He simply said: “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.” Jesus came to sinners like you and me, to heal us, to forgive us our sins, and to make us healthy. He never met any sinner and told him or her - it is OK to live in sin, no problem. No! Jesus would never approve of any sinful way of living, yet He used every opportunity to meet and to heal each sinner He met. Jesus comes to you and me, also sinners, to heal our souls. We can’t simply throw a banquet for Him, invite Him over once or twice and then go back to our regular sinful way of living. We must follow Him, just like Levi. We must leave everything that is sinful behind, get up and follow Jesus.
