Herod said to the Magi: “Go and search diligently for the child. When you have found him, bring me word, that I too may go and do him homage.” We know that he was lying and didn’t want to give Jesus any homage but to get rid of Him. This is exactly how evil works. Evil will try to manipulate us and convince us that it wants the best for you. That’s why sometimes it is very difficult to distinguish what comes from God and what from the evil one. Today’s Gospel reminds me that I always must be on guard and ask the Lord and the Holy Spirit to guide me in the right paths. Evil paths may seem attractive and harmless, but we know that in the end they will lead us to destruction. Just like the Magi, we need to run away from any form of evil. “And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed for their country by another way.”
