Thursday after Ash Wednesday

In the midst of what is happening in our world, especially in Eastern Europe, I find Jesus’ words from today’s Gospel very comforting. Jesus said: “What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?” There were, are, and will be leaders in this world that would do anything in order to gain more and more and more. More power, more lands, more money, more fame. Their selfishness and pride do not allow them to see the suffering and cry of other people. They only think about themselves. Yes, they may gain all the reaches of this world; however, they will lose much, much more -- life eternal. It is very sad that some people ignore Jesus’ warning. This life will pass, everything of this world will pass. So we all need to worry, not so much about the things of this world, but about doing everything in order to gain eternal life that lasts forever. “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”
