Thursday of the First Week of Advent ‘b’

Jesus said to his disciples: “Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” I love it! Nothing to add to Jesus’s words today. He is so clear, and He reminds us that we must fulfill God’s will in order to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Prayer is very important, prayer must be part of our lives, in prayer we should talk, listen, adore God. But it can’t stop there -- true prayer must bring us to action. We can’t only pray and repeat ‘Lord, Lord’, we can’t proclaim the Lord only with our lips, but we must go into the world and bring our prayer to action. How? Do you remember what Jesus said in the gospel reading two weeks ago for the Solemnity of Christ the King? He said: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” We will fulfill the will of God only when we are able to recognize Him in our brothers and sisters in need, and then help them.
